Photo Information Download a copy hereHere are some helpful guidelines for taking photos to be used in the contest. One 8 x 10 vertical color photograph will be used for the photogenic judging and is the first impression the judges will get of you as a contestant. The wallet sized black and white photos will be submitted to the newspaper and used in the official program. So, it is very important that the photo you submit looks like you, allow your personality to show. If you need ideas for makeup or hair, visit with professionals at the makeup counters at your local department stores and your hairstylist or go online (rodeoroyalty.com) to look at the current trends. Outside shots can be "busy" and distracting. q Do not touch the brim of your hat in any pose. DO NOT let your photographer tip your hat back. Rule of thumb: your hat should stay 1-2 fingers above your eyebrows. q A head and shoulder shot is best. Beware of awkward or uncomfortable poses that involve leaning excessively or tilting your head too much. q Look western. Stay away from distracting accessories and clothing such as sequins and busy fabrics. Judges want to see YOU not a loud print or gigantic earrings. q Stay away from low cut, plunging necklines. Be modest. q Your smile should be natural, no sexy scowls or cheesy smiles. They want to see teeth, but they don't want to see your gums. q Show your personality, but try to be relaxed. You want to look confident, friendly and approachable. q Hair should never be left completely straight. Soft curls are recommended. Bangs should NOT hang down beneath your hat. q Take several outfits to the shoot because you never know what will turn out best on camera. q The picture should accurately represent what you look like in person. When applying makeup remember it may need to be darker to show up in the photo. Younger contestants should be natural looking not made up. Back to Queens Homepage |
